Inspiring women's films for International Women's Day
This International Women's Day, we're honouring all the films featuring bold, strong and inspirational female leads. And whether they're fighting off bad guys or challenging societal expectations, these are ten films worth watching tonight.
ERIN BROCKOVICH
This inspirational true story is one that's hard to get bored of. It follows the life of an unemployed single mother who becomes a legal assistant and almost single-handedly brings down a California power company accused of polluting a city's water supply. This is sure to give you a little boost of motivation for your workday!
QUEEN OF KATWE
Fresh from the cinemas, this incredible true story follows a young girl from the streets of rural Uganda whose confidence and determination sees her working towards becoming an international chess champion. A truly beautiful film that'll warm you heart.
GRAVITY
In this Oscar-winning film, Sandra Bullock brilliantly tells the tale of a genius medical engineer who is heading out on her first shuttle mission. When disaster strikes, she is left stranded, spiralling into the blackness. Watching her battle to get through this traumatic event is raw, thrilling and straight-up inspirational. A must-see.
BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM
A kaleidoscope of colour and culture clash, this beautful film tells the tale of a traditional Indian family living in London with a daughter who wishes to play professional soccer. Throughout the film, Jess is forced to make a choice between her family's wishes and giving up her greatest dream.
THELMA AND LOUISE
This epic tale kicks off after a housewife and waitress (Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis) shoot a would-be rapist, leading them on a cross-country chase across the country that would change their lives together. If you are yet to watch this iconic film, you'll want to change that tonight. Warning: there's an ending you'll never forget.
THE HELP
Emma Stone tells the beautiful tale of an aspiring author during the civil rights movement of the 1960s. She decides to write a book detailing the African-American maid's point of view on the white families for which they work, and the hardships they go through on a daily basis. An eye-opening film that will touch your heart.

THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO
This Swedish film is the first in a series of three films that follows the lives of a male journalist and a young female hacker who has been mistreated, abused and suppressed. Her strength and determination to prove her innocence from an injust sentence is amazing to watch and will leave you thinking about it for weeks afterwards.
Heads up - this isn't one to watch with the children.
CAROL
Based on Patricia Highsmith's novella, The Price of Salt, Carol follows the burgeoning relationship between two very different women in 1950s New York. One, a girl in her 20s working in a department store who dreams of a more fulfilling life, and the other, a wife trapped in a loveless, moneyed marriage desperate to break free.
HUNGER GAMES - CATCHING FIRE
The second film in the hugely popular series, Catching Fire is the turning point when main character, Katniss Everdeen, shows her real strength and passion. After returning home from survivng the 74th Hunger Games, Katniss feels a strong sense of desire to challenge the dictatorship she has been living under, ending cruel violence and bridging the gap between poverty and wealth. A great film to get your little ones thinking, too.

SUFFRAGETTE
With an impressive cast including Ausse Carrie Mulligan, this beautiful film follows the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State. A must-watch this International Women's Day.
