New films to watch over Easter weekend

With the Easter long weekend right around the corner, there's never been a better time for staying in and relaxing on the couch with some good films. To make your movie selection easier, we've pulled together a list of our favourite new releases - fresh from the cinema to your lounge room.

ALLIED

From the director of Forrest Gump and Cast Away comes the year's most seductive thriller, and with Brad Pitt at the helm of a stellar cast, you know you're in for something fantastic. Allied follows the story of Intelligence Officer Max Vatan (Pitt), who learns his wife may be conspiring with the enemy.

With only 72 hours to prove her innocence before he is forced to do the unthinkable, this action-packed film is guaranteed to have you on the edge of your seat the whole way through.

WHY HIM?

It's a father's worst nightmare - your daughter starts dating someone who is rude, socially awkward and a little crazy. Why Him? perfectly sums up all the mixed emotions that arise when your child choses someone less than preferable, leaving the audience laughing out loud as the over-protective dad (Bryan Cranston) struggles to accept party boy Laird Mayhew (James Franco).

For everyone who's familiar with Franco's style of comedy, this wild film will have you in stiches by the end.

JACKIE

Whether you have followed her journey, briefly touched on the Kennedys in history class or just love any film with an inspirational leading lady, Jackie is for you.

The movie follows the story of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy (Natalie Portman), grappling with unimaginable grief and trauma following President John F. Kennedy's assassination. Her admirable strength, faith and faultless class sees her beginning a new life with their children.

MIDDLE SCHOOL: THE WORST YEARS OF MY LIFE

We can't forget the kids, and this adventurous teen drama is worth putting down the smart phone for. The film tells the story of Rafe, a bright boy with a powerful imagination (and a slight problem with authority).

After transferring to an oppressive, rule-crazy middle school, Rafe and his scheming best friend Leo hatch a plan to break every rule in the school's Code of Conduct.
